Nico Rosberg proved himself master of the tricky conditions on his way to claim Pole Position for the Chinese Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo put in a phenomenal lap to start 2nd on the grid, beating Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, who make up the second row. Rosberg starts the race on the Soft tyre, which could give him a significant advantage during the race, with his rivals in the top 10 starting on the Supersoft compound and expected to pit at around the 3rd lap.
Tragedy struck for current World Champion Lewis Hamilton who will start the race from last, he already carried a 5 place grid penalty to this weekend due to a gearbox change, but problems with his power unit left him unable to set a Qualifying lap. There were a few Red Flags during Qualifying, including one for Manor’s Pascal Wehrlein after he hit the barriers when he activated his DRS on a particularly damp patch of track during Q1 and for Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg, who lost a tyre and brought a premature end to Q2.
UPDATE: Hulkenberg has been given a 3 Place Grid Penalty for the incident.
It’s going to be one heck of a race!
